But there are so many awesome patterns for throws/blankets/afghans out there. Approximately 2356 more than I’d actually need. There’s e.g. the Clock-Blanket from Charmed Knits which is just awesome. I’ve also got Debbie Abrahams Blankets and Throws to Knit, where I love all but one or two patterns. The new Knitting Green-book I bought has also a beautiful pattern for a blanket…and then I’m considering for quite a while to knit a patchwork-planket from my leftover yarns…and there are so much other on Ravelry. But apart from taking quite some time to knit you actually can have to much blankets (opposed to socks for example)…*sighs*

Quite a lot actually. Let’s start with the FO of the week:

That’s Caroline. Well OK it’s a ‘Lace & Button Shawl’ from the Quick & Easy Knits Section from Simply Knitting. But easy projects deserve a pretty name, too (And yeah it’s named after her. apparently I’m that much of a political geek, but the colour is simply so fitting ^^).
Yeah and strictly speaking it’s not completely finished: The buttons are missing. I was thinking about buying some here but at home we have four or five boxes with buttons and I’m not in that much hurry to finish it.

I also bought new knitting books…because I don’t have enough *sighs*

Actually I only wanted to order Knitting Green and Anticraft, but evil am.azon suggested also the Domiknitrix (which I have been pulling in and out of my shopping-basket for ages) and the Cute Crochet (which is simply well…cute) and I couldn’t resist *sighs*. So far I can say that they are all awesome

I’ve also signed up for the Harry Potter Knitting & Crochet House Cup on Ravelry. And I’ve been sorted into Slytherin, which was quite a surprise (but hey: we’ve hotties in our dungeon ^^) and I’ve submitted my first OWL-proposal ignoring the fact that this other university also asks me to do stuff.

And that was nearly everything. Well everything knitting-related. But there is something slightly completely Off-Topic I have to mention. It is this blog-post by the great Stephen Fry. If you intend to vote in any election, no matter if the General Election in the UK, in NRW or anywhere in the world, read it. Yes it’s seven pages but considering the Do I vote?/For whom will I vote? is actually quite a major desicion you can really spare these 20-30 minutes.

Long Time No See

First my laptop was broken. And then I was just too lazy to post…

So let’s start with a FO I finally finished over Easter:

Yes it’s a TARDIS…and yes I’m addicted to Doctor Who. I started that over a year ago, even before I went on my ERASMUS-year to Northern Ireland. I thzen took the WIP with me, when I went there, and continued to work on it. Then I ran out of yarn (for some reason I could knit the firstb two side-panels with one skein but only 1 1/2 with the second…). Obviously I couldn’t get the same yarn I had bought in Germany over in NI. So it wandered in the UFO-pile and I intended to take it back to Germany when I flew home for Christmas, buy the yarn there and finally finnish it.
I flew home, bought the yarn and realised that I had forgotten the parts back in Belfast…so instead I took the yarn over when I flew back, finnished it, took the parts back again when I came home for Easter and finally finished it completely there.
Yeah so this TARDIS has already got lots of air-miles.

I took a break from the cardigan…the pattern managed to bore and annoy me at the same time. So instead I used some stash-yarn that had been lying around for ages and now I’m using it for a lace-shawl I found in the April-issue of Simply Knitting:

That’s Opal-yarn btw. It’s from their ‘Mexico Country Colour’-Range and the colourway’s ‘Ireland’ (and now I have no idea what Mexico’s got to do with Ireland either)

And last but not least: a friend from Italy surprised my with this nice package:

Aren’t they awesome? Now I need some nice one-skein projects for bulky yarn. I already searched on Ravelry a bit and the pink one down left might become a mobius wrap.

WIP: Lacy Cardigan

Long time no see…I’ve been knitting OK not all the time. My current project is Kerela, a lacy cardigan. So far I haven’t knitted that much garments so I’m quite exited . The Pattern is from Pattons:

The yarn is Pattons: Misty (which is actually exactly the yarn the pattern calls for..it was for sale).

So far I’ve finished the back:

(Yes the lighting in my room isn’t ideal). Currently I’m working on the left front, which I haven’t photographed so far.
It knits quite well. At the beginning it took a while to get used to mohair + lace-pattern but now it works OK. Actually so OK that it’s beginning to get a bit dull and I’m a bit tempted to start something else…

So let’s try it

…if I have enough patience for a knitting-blog.

I’ll start with showing off some FOs I did during my first Ravelympics.

These are Nagini-socks:

The cables are a bit difficult to see but the lighting in my room is simply terrible and makes it impossible to take decent photos…
It was the first time that I tried cabled socks (after I already made a cabled bag and countless socks) and will propably also be the last time for a long while. Cabling socks is simply terribly wearisome work (yeah it propably also didn’t help that my cable-needle was quite long).
But anyway: I finished them and got a medall for it

My second project were some beaded gloves: Jolly Rogers/Bones. I did already knit a pair of these as christmas-present. And that’s where the problems started. When I tried the pair I made as present they were a bit too wide for me. As I didn’t want to use a different yarn and was too lazy to convert the pattern into a smaller size the only possibility I had to make it smaller was using smaller needles.
The first pair was knitted on 2.5 mm bamboo-circular needles. The only smaller set I had were some 2.0 mm metall-DPNs. I knitted only one or two pair of socks on DPNs and gave up because I always endet up stabbing myself and/or drawing out the wrong DPN and than had to catch all the stitches again. I also don’t like knitting on metall-needles because they always make my hands hurt.
In short: I hated nearly every minute of it BUT I made it!!!

And I got a shiny medal for it

So although I did have some trouble with the knitting I really enjoyed the Ravelympics (and I’m not even interested in the Olympics that much). I’ll defenitely join in again next time.
